Saturday Night Jivers Dogs Die
Travolta's Dogs Die in Tragic Accident
Just over 16 months since his son tragically died while on holiday in the Bahamas, John Travolta's family is facing yet more heartbreak.
It's been confirmed that two dogs who belonged to the actor were struck and killed at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Thursday. The family had just recently come into land there.
The dogs were apparently both on leashes and being walked towards a grassy area when they were hit by an airport service truck.
The following statement was released
to the Bangor Daily News...
“At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family’s privacy the city will make no further comment.”
The family were on their way to their home in Islesboro, Maine.
The airport director Rebecca Hupp told the newspaper: "Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident. Our deepest sympathies are with the family.”
John Travolta has been around Hollywood as a more or less permanent fixture since the late 1970s when his dance routines such as Jive, Latin Hustle, and Rock 'n' Roll were seen in movies like “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease.” It was these dancing roles as Tony Manero and Danny Zukko that bought him the fame and ultimate cult status that he still enjoys today. He is still acting today and was seen most recently in the 2009 film “Old Dogs” appearing with Robin Williams.
