Regular partner or good to be single?

Here is just a little dance tip, from me to you. When I started dancing, I was so jealous of all of those "dance couples", out there on the dance floor, dancing so beautifully together. I longed for a regular partner, because I was certain that if I had one, I could learn to dance better, much more quickly.

Then, a very accomplished dancer, said to me, "You will become a BETTER dancer, because you do NOT have a regular partner",  I, of course, thought that she was nuts!

What I have come to realize, however, a year down the road, is that she was absolutely right! I am able to follow just about anyone, anywhere I dance. I often have other followers, with regular partners, that come up to me and say, "How in the world do you follow him? I danced with him once, and didn't have a clue what he wanted me to do!". Key word being "once". They rarely dance with anyone other than their own partners. It is my opinion that when you are so familiar with only one persons' lead or follow, it is more difficult to dance with a new partner, as you become so familiar and comfortable with that one persons' lead or follow, that anything new seems foreign.

The moral to this story is: Get out and dance with everyone!! We will all become better dancers because of it. Every dance with a new partner is exciting, refreshing and almost always fun, because you never know what is coming next!  We all have something that we can learn or teach to one another.

So, remember, whether you are a new dancer, as a single person, or a couple, be sure and dance with everyone!
